Doug Saunders: International Affairs Columnist, The Globe and Mail
Canada’s crisis of underpopulation and its geography of inequality
Doug Saunders is the international-affairs columnist for the Globe and Mail. He served as the paper’s London-based European bureau chief for a decade. Drawing on best practices he’s studied across Europe and North America, he will look at what needs to be done to turn our cities into more effective platforms for immigrant integration, innovation, economic equality, ecological sustainability and population growth.

Thursday Outreach Food Drive

ESG distributes all donated food through our weekly drop in ministry which provides food to a large, low-income community who come to our church  on Thursday afternoons from 1:30-3:30 p.m.   The drop-off box labelled “Thursday Outreach” is located inside the entrance of the church beside the Welcome Desk. We also welcome grocery store gift cards for food purchases.

This program is led by an amazing group of volunteers who carry out this ministry on behalf of ESG each week.

Items that are always needed include:

  • Canned meat or fish (tuna/salmon)
  • small jars of peanut butter
  • toiletries (hotel sized are perfect)
  • jam
  • almonds/nuts
  • drink boxes/bottled water
  • individual fruit cups/canned fruit
  • cereals, breakfast/protein bars
  • multi grain crackers
  • beans/vegetarian foods
  • chapstick (winter is coming)

Any other non-perishable food items are also welcome. No expired goods, please. We are always in need of items that are self-opening and do not require a can opener as many of our guests do not have a kitchen. This is an ongoing need so if you could please keep our Thursday Outreach guests in your thoughts & prayers and perhaps add an item to your grocery cart with them in mind, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your continued contributions and compassionate support of this ministry.  Your benevolent givings support this program.

Food donations can be made year-round at the church. We also participate in additional seasonal food drives.
